Obituary for Eric Measel

In Loving Memory:Obituaries June 30, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (33)It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eric Douglas Measel on 6-14-2024. Eric was born on 09-11-1963 in Dayton Ohio. He was proceeded in death by his parents Don and Malinda Measel. He was the business owner of Patriot Industrial Maintenance. Eric dedicated his life to others. Whether it was coaching peewee football, being a mentor to others, playing in the church worship band or employing others at the business he ran with his son in Springfield Tennessee. He made sure the relationships he had with people were personal. Right down to the ladies at the bank. Never missing an opportunity to ask how their families were and if their day was going ok. Everyone who knew Eric knew what a driven and dedicated person he was in everything he did. He believed if you’re going to do something do it right and give it everything you got. Even when he encountered a hard time in life, he handled it and kept moving forward with a new plan reminding everyone that it will just make you tougher. Eric also played on the 1981 AP State Champ Football team for Waynesville Ohio Football team, and was voted most talented of his high school class. He loved music. He was an amazing song writer, singer and entertainer. His Uncle Ev taught him how to play guitar when he was younger. He was a natural on stage. From singing with his brother Brad and their friends in the group Brimstone to playing shows in Nashville on Broadway. He always looked forward to his time with his song writers’ group NSAI, Cincinnati Dayton Chapter, and especially his time with his best friend Alex. When he wasn’t working with his music or his business he was working on the farm. He loved his cattle and the farm life. Most of all Eric loved his kids and grandkids. He would travel hours to watch a football game, cheer, track meets and school activities. When he couldn’t make it, he was on the phone for play by plays of what was happening. Eric was a story teller. You knew when Eric started to tell a story to settle in because you were going to hear every detail and sound effect. Eric had many friends and acquaintances over the years but he treated everyone like family. The impact of his loss will be felt for a long time by many. His intensity in the way he lived, coached, worked and loved was contagious. The lessons that he taught to so many, including his sons will never be forgotten and will be carried on through the next generations.
